The BRICS: Plural Agendas for a Reconfiguration of the International Order

The deterioration of relations between the West, Russia, and China against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine could have turned the BRICS into a deterrent for countries of the “Global South.” On the contrary, the BRICS have gained increasing importance in recent years, as demonstrated by the latest summit in Kazan in November 2024, which brought together around thirty heads of state and government. This momentum raises questions about the motivations of the new member countries, the BRICS+’ ability to reshape the contemporary international order, and the internal coherence of a group with growing heterogeneity.
